Its been almost six hours and I am barely hanging in there. I am back at work. The paid job. My maternity leave is over. O.V.E.R. I feel weird. Like, a very important part of me is missing. An arm? A leg?! No. Oh. Shit. Its my kid.
I definitely felt ready for a change. My five months of maternity leave was amazing (Tip to future parents: take as much time as you possibly can!!). We got past the sheer what-the-heck-is-going-on stage (day 1 - 2 months) to the okay-cool-i-can-do-this stage (2 - 4 months) to the now wow!-this-is-fun stage. But, truth be told, ye 'ole brain needs a bit more stimulation. Don't get me wrong, I still feel like I could spend hours just staring at Sunshine. But, day after day, I was getting bored. A friend told me that she feels she is a better parent because she works. So I hope the three-days a week work schedule is just what I need.
But. Today is hard.
Also, my breast pump broke. While I completely and totally hate pumping (see: cow), it is vital now to relieve the balloon-boobs from not nursing and to create future bottles for Sunshine. So I had to play MacGyver, using tape and pieces of a paper towel as well as my finger, to get the thing to work. Sigh.
Now, I watch the clock.
