Yes. I am in labor and having a baby. And yes, I am actually blogging while I am in labor. So far (extreme emphasis on so far) its been nothing like I've anticipated....
Hubby and I went off for a romantic overnight to a rustic cabin outside of Basalt. I had been feeling kinda out of it - like I was getting the flu or something with achy back pain. So we brought the hospital bag with us, thinking that we would have to abandon our night to fly down to the hospital. No dice. The evening and night were relaxing and wonderful. Driving back home, however, I rather quickly became perturbed. I was have contraction-esk sensations but I've never had a baby, never been in labor and so really having no freakin' clue was a contraction is or is not. I became resigned to feeling that the baby was not going to come any time soon. Back at the casa, I started making fruit leathers (watch out, 'Boots! they are for you!) and generally putzing around trying to occupy myself with something other than THE HUGE BASKETBALL IN MY BELLY. I joined the Hubby outside to read the Sunday paper. Grumble grumble of the stomach and I was inside for a tasty snack of dried apples and string cheese. Lounging while munching, there was a little internal 'pop' and then, just like The Books say, a gush of water.
Zoinks.
I called out to the Hubby, "my water just broke!" Thankfully, our neighbors were also outside so they returned with a "WHOOOHOOO!!" He came dashing inside and we frantically tore through The Books to confirm our next step: call the midwife. I have GroupB Strep and so the midwife told us to come in immediately. I had visions of me moaning and wailing at home and then hobbling into the car to go to the hospital. Instead, both the Hubby and I took showers and we strolled out to the car. I, of course, was very nervous and got cranky. Called parents. Deep breaths. Is this really happening?
We thought maybe we'd arrive at the hospital and they'd tell us to go home. Yet, I got hooked up to the monitor and voila! I was having contractions. I dunno what the deal is but I am NOT going to complain that I seem to not have really painful contractions. Discomfort? Yes. Weird pressure? For sure. A sensation leading me to think "Shit. That is a contraction? No."
Anywho. So we've been at the hospital for about 4 hours now. We're settled in. NO going home until we have a baby. Yes. I am in shock and just kinda feel a bit dazed. We're laying low though...trying to be in the moment but also realize we have no idea how long this will take. However, with my water breaking, "they" want the baby to arrive within 24 hours. So by 3:20pm tomorrow, we will have a baby. We will have a baby.

I KNEW IT!!!!
I knew you hadn't called me back because you were busy having a baby. Knew it, knew it. Steve D (saw Steve this weekend) and he said "I bet she's having a baby." Si I figured I'd better check email to see if you guys had sent out the word. No email... I'll check her blog. "I'm blogging during labor." This is why I love you.
THIS IS A HUGE WONDERFUL DEVELOPMENT!
Fuck it, I don't care if you are in the hospital. I'm calling you.
