Its pouring

Its pouring baby showers! Two weekends and two very different baby showers.

The Denver shower was like a weekend at summer camp. On Friday night, it was a celebration of an Oblivious 30th birthday. Steaks at Bastiens were followed by a burlesque show...oh yes, big city birthdays are SO fun. The shower on Saturday included an orgy of food, drinks and games at a park. Most. Excellent. The paint-your-own-onesie was particularly memorable as, in addition to a butterfly and rainbow onesie, the munchkin can also sport a "All my daddy wanted was a BJ." Exceptional. Festivities continued into the evening and included throwing hammers, nailing nails and soaking in a hottub. Ya can't be that trio of party fun (and no one lost a toe! hurrah!). I sipped on tasty Durango natural sodas while the laughter and fun continued well into the night. For a group of friends who are without children and many profess to swear off procreation, there was a lotta love.

Shower number two was a big 'ole mess of family and family friends. Hubby and I flew back east to meet up with both of our families as well as friends who used to change my own diaper. My stepmom, who hosted the shower, gets rather tense when it comes to hosting so it was great when my stepbrother came over early and suggested opening the wine 2 hours prior to the 'official' start of the event. Managing the neurosis of my family as well as the Hubby's at once is a true challenge. They are just total opposites - my family is quiet and reserved and you have to work and probe to get them to come out of their shells; the Hubby's family is like a nuclear bomb that could go off at any minute. However, all went well and there was lots of friendly, adult mixing and mingling. The Hubby was vetted by our family friends who all issued masked threats if he did me wrong. Love it.

Who made the BJ onesie? That's awesome. Your baby shower made me want to have kids some day. And also it made me want to have another BBQ real soon.
