Focus

My blog strays significantly from its original intent of describing my mishaps in country living. Hence, I offer a post to relay current anecdotes, mishaps, etc.:

- At about 8 o'clock one evening, we noticed two lights moving up and down our driveway. The Hubby went out to investigate. Our cooky neighbor was out with his John Deere tractor plowing snow on our driveway! This is the same neighbor who a) accused our dogs of killing his chickens b) has negative social skills and c) has had the sheriff at his house on numerous occasions due to his delinquent step-sons. It was also freezing cold and he had no hat and gloves. So, while we were grateful, it was kinda weird. And he was out there for a good hour...up and down, up and down plowing away. We invited him for a beer but he declined. Hmmm.

- We knew the dogs had found something because they would not come into the house when called. I finally went out to investigate. In one of our outbuildings I found a dead house cat. It looks like the dogs had been attempting to 'lick' it back to life. Completely and totally gross! Being the sissy girl that I am, I did not pick up the frozen cat but just closed the door and went to tell the Hubby. Thankfully Jamin was in town for the weekend. She has no qualms with dead animals as it is part of her daily work. She and I went to the outbuilding and she picked it up. It was like a Popsicle! We named it Catsicle. It had no signs of trauma or even a collar. Jamin put it in a garbage bag and we put it out with the weekly trash.

- Our daily paper, the Post Independent, had an interesting front page story about a man who chased off two burglars with a wood stick. The sheriff caught the two burglars a couple hours later and they were linked to a number of other robberies. In looking at the picture and reading the story for a second time, I realized that it was the house across the street from us and our neighbor! I felt like my bubble was kind of burst. So we are NOT immune from societal evils. BOOOO!

- Meanwhile, the chickens are doing well...I think. The Hubby put insulation and a heater in the chicken house so they are surviving the winter. I have turned a new corner and decided I really don't like them. The -3 degree weather does not offer any help and they are, in my mind, dirty, dirty birds.

That's the latest: Country livin' in all its glory!

I read this and thought the Hubby had put insulin in the coop. Why? I asked. Are the birds diabetic? I wondered. Then I re-read it and realized perhaps my contacts are shot. Keep warm!
