The Hubby is realizing the benefits of working on contingency: bonuses. His partners handed him an absolutely delightful bonus before he headed out the door for the Thanksgiving holiday. We both have been speculating for some time. The law firm / contingency model means that a firm can walk away from a case with either absolutely nothing/zero/zilch or hundreds of thousands of dollars. For me, it is a business model that would be extremely stressful. Thankfully, the Hubby's partners have worked the model successfully and have a wine cellar to celebrate all victories. When the Hubby took the job we knew about this system but it has been hard to know how much it would deliver. SHAZZAAAM! It delivers! Oh yes!
As we have been speculating, the Hubby has planted the seed of a new television and tended to it diligently. He's done the research, followed the prices and drooled at other peoples' fabulous televisions. With the check in hand, I knew that we would see a new television come out of it. His eyes gleamed with the possibility of purchasing this new toy. Always the dutiful lobbyist, he heard my case for paying bills and debts and then crafted a delightful counter that included bills, debts and the new television. Thankfully, the money was there and the math worked. SO:
WE WILL SOON OWN A BRAND NEW SPIFFY 60-INCH TELEVISION.
It is, by far, the most extravagant and expensive toy I have ever owned but it will be so freakin' cool! We certainly will need to re-watch every movie we own just so we can experience the effect on the new screen. And yes, while a part of me remains anxious about not putting all of the money towards bills and debts, this is a much more glamorous way to spend a bonus that was truly earned.
The television was out of stock so we didn't get the instant gratification. However, I do know what we are doing this coming weekend. Anyone who is up for movie-watching, let us know as you are sure to find us planted in front of the new screen...drooling.

Sixty inches? Seriously? Was it The Cowboy's new set that put you over the top or what?
You guys are funny.
Yes the Cowboy's set definitely had something to do with it...The Parrots', my dad's and others did as well. Heck. We don't watch television. Might as well as live it up when we watch a movie. Right? (rationalizing..rationalizing)
Wanna come and visit and watch movies 2gether?!
Please don't tell Dude, please don't tell Dude, please don't tell Dude.
okthxbye
