While Boots and I certainly feel like organizing this event is a ton of work, once it is underway it is a complete affirmation of the female spirit. Hiking with women like this is a completely unique experience. The energy, joy and compassion is so different from a 'mixed-sex' group. We had women who had never hiked a 14er as well as one who was conquering her 27th. I met some great new folks as well as connected with wonderful old friends. Lots of laughter and lots of smiling (okay, and some really fucking sore feet and muscles!). I love it!
This was the view from the top (and yes, we started all the way below treeline!):

WOMEN ROCK!
Once off the mountain, we celebrated with pizza and beer and managed to still talk about Brazilians. We then headed over to the Crawfish Boil to meet up with more folks, including manly men. This event has also become an annual tradition. The Cowboy and Parrot spend 6 hours in the wee hours of the morning catching crawfish in very cold water with women's stockings and bits of raw meat. This is not my idea of a good time but I am grateful for all of their work. They then make a huge feast with the critters, potatoes, sausauge, corn, enormous amounts of garlic and other yummy ingredients. There, of course, was also a huge bonfire, drinking and lots of laughing. The perfect way to celebrate a long day on the mountain.
HUGE thanks to everyone who came and made this weekend a true highlight of the summer! Now we have about 9 months until the planning and work is underway again for the next GGH and, hopefully, another freakin' awesome weekend.
